First launched in 2151 with the NX-01 Enterprise, the NX Class was a class intended to test the Warp Five engine and become the new platform for Starfleet as it pushed out into the local space. The new variants, the NX-12 Eagle, and NX-11 Antares, were first launched in 2160 and 2159, respectively.

Variants

Warp 6 Variant

The next generation of NX ships, the NX-11 Antares and NX-12 Eagle, are the Warp 6 variant, after the short lived rescue program was cancelled. The primary changes to these ships are to the drive and weapons systems, as well as many incremental upgrades to the ships information and warfare systems. With the lessons learnt from the original NX ships, as well as an increased need for longer deep-space patrols, the new Warp 6 Variant boasts a longer time before needing a full resupply
